Organizing the Creative Mind

While down at conference, I was absolutely stunned by the sheer number and variety of all the organizers. There are as many different kinds of us as there are stars in the sky. We all have our own personal style, and our own individual quirks, and it was wonderful to see them all together. It's also fun(ny) to see who gets what from each session. I attended Best Practices for Organizing the Creative Mind, by Scott Belsky. Scott is the founder of Behance and author of the book Making Things Happen. His presentation was an introduction (to me, anyway) to the Action Method, which comes across as kind of a put-up-or-shut-up method of project management. Me myself? I loved it. It emphasizes action...you can talk about things until you're blue in the face, but doing things is where you get the most reward. Yes, even if those things are of crappy quality, because crappy quality can be refined. The main thing is to overcome the inertia of inaction. Get up off your butt and do something. Was it what I was expecting when I walked into the session? No, not quite. I was anticipating something that was focused on keeping the individual engaged and focused, where this method focuses on keeping a team of people engaged and focused. That's cool. I'm a Bob Ross kind of girl, and tend to roll with things to see where they lead. However, it sounded like a few other people may also have been thrown for a loop on that one.Next post on deck: Time Management Systems
